Line of Duty 2012 detective show

Line of Duty (2012, United Kingdom)
After a botched raid on a flat of a suspect, DS Steve Arnott becomes a scapegoat for refusing to cover up the mistakes that were made in the planning of this operation. More or less forced out of his unit, he is recruited by Superintendent Ted Hastings to join a special service, Anti-Corruption Unit 12. AC-12 investigates the corruption within the police, so the integrity Arnott shown in his last assignment makes him a perfect candidate, but also a target for his former superior. His first case in AC-12 regards a highly praised office, DCI Tony Gates, in charge of a criminal investigation unit. But while the initial suspicion seems petty, Gates was given a free meal as a gratitude gesture from a restaurant owner, the AC-12 investigation could not happen in the worst moment for him. His former girlfriend, Jackie Laverty, calls him for help in a completely different matter - she accidentally hit a man with her car on a secluded road and fled the scene. Gates does not want to get involved, but nevertheless helps Jackie. Soon things get complicated, not only the man hit by Jackie died, but also Gates discovers that she knew the victim.
British police procedural TV series surrounding operations of the fictional anti-corruption unit, but also showing different angles of the case - not only the investigators as they chase after their suspect, but also the suspects as they try to free themselves from a tight spot they suddenly found themselves in. While the idea of the internal police unit is not that original, there were several such TV series in the past, but Line of Duty was made on a different scale - the cases were multi-layered, the opponents AC-12 were facing were more powerful, the motivations of the characters were complicated. Six series were made by BBC, most of which were a real treat for mystery stories fans.
