Detective games online

What are detective games online?
Detective online games are the genre of video games. Such games feature detective work, such as investigating crimes, searching for clues, solving puzzles and catching culprits. The genre of detective online games is as old as the Internet itself - the early examples were available back in the 1990s. Of course, most of them were based on, or inspired by classic detective stories, such as Sherlock Holmes stories (f.e. Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective from 1991) or board games (f.e. the classic Clue).
Detective stories usually involve solving a crime or a mystery, thus involving the audience to try to solve them. Just like famous detectives in literature fiction (Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, Maigret) and works of famous mystery writers (Edgar Allan Poe, Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie), detective online games appeal to the human curiosity. But this time you are not just the observer, you take part in the story and (in some cases) the outcome of the story. Some early detective games were linear in the approach (there is only one correct way to solve each puzzle or one way to follow the plot), but there were also titles like 2011 L.A. Noire, where the main plot is mixed with side-missions scattered around the vast city you can freely explore.
Can you solve a mystery like this one?
The detective online games as a genre allow you to step into the shoes of a detective and solve various mysteries, puzzles, and crimes. You can use your investigative skills to find clues, interrogate suspects and catch the killers. But the genre consists of many titles with different approaches to the main theme, different styles, such as point-and-click, hidden objects, adventure, puzzle, or even the police procedural approach. They can be played directly through a web browser, or downloaded to your device. Some of them are multiplayer, meaning you can cooperate or compete with other players online. Some of them are also free, while others require a payment or a subscription.

Famous Last Words
"I don’t believe he would be able to kill anyone", those were the last words an investigative journalist wrote down in his notebook while a rickshaw was taking him home. Unfortunately, he never reached his home, someone attacked him on the doorstep of his house. Lucky for the police, there was an eyewitness to what happened that evening.

Lightning Never Strikes Twice
An elderly couple was found dead in their house on the outskirts of the town by their neighbour. At first glance, it looks like someone broke into their home and attacked them both using some sort of blunt instrument. Even though the crime scene was grizzly enough, the detective, who took over the investigation, later discovered one more disturbing detail in that story.
