During a San Sebastian Festival in San Juan, Puerto Rico, an influential local lawyer, Henry Hearst, is asked by the Captain Victor Benezet to come down to the police station to answer just a few more questions regarding his recent witness report. During jogging with the dog one day, Hearst stumbled upon a body of a murdered young girl hidden in the bushes, and the police wanted to clarify some details of his story. It is not convenient for Hearst, especially since he is about to give a speech during a charity dinner, but he visits the police station and meets the two investigators. Even though the whole scene looks like just a casual discussion between people who know each other, with each answer Hearst seems to be losing credibility and Benezet gets the upper hand, finding holes in the lawyer’s story. Before the interrogation is over from just a witness, Hearst becomes the prime suspect in two murder cases. Captain Benezet is pressured by his superiors to wrap up the questioning, since the elite of the island expects Hearst to be present at the charity dinner, so he steps up the investigation and moves their discussion into areas the lawyer would prefer to keep out - his marriage to beautiful Chantal Hearst.

Remake of a classic French movie Garde a vue from 1981, made with a great set of actors (phenomenal duo Hackman and Freeman as main characters) and even moving the story to a tropical island did not change the tense and gloomy atmosphere of the interrogation scenes. The tensions between the lawyer and the detective, the complexity of the case, the psychological layers of the story, all of it makes this movie a perfect crime thriller. The only flaw in this production was the fact that the creators partly changed the original ending, which was more appropriate to the undertones of the original story (Brainwash by John Wainwright).
