A letter was found on the desk. From the position where it was found and the fact that the content of the letter was unfinished, it can be assumed that Sir Arthur was killed while he was writing it. The letter reads:
Mombasa, 17th November 1896

On the floor, next to the desk, on which Sir Arthur was found dead, splinters of wood were found. They were quite small and made of hard wood, one of them had traces of varnish and a smooth surface. Their texture and colour did not match any of the wooden elements within the room. (anonymised) said that he never saw anything made of such wood, so it might be something brought from Europe or Asia.
