Wire in the Blood 2002 detective show

Wire in the Blood (2002, United Kingdom)
An eccentric clinical psychologist, Dr Tony Hill, is asked to help the police with their murder investigation. They want to find a killer, who seems to be targeting gay men in Bradfield and is using very brutal methods of torture, which makes this case stand out from the rest. Despite the initial scepticism from the other officers, DI Carol Jordan hopes Hill skill’s experience and skills as a profiler will bring a much-needed breakthrough in this case. When a police officer becomes the new victim of that same killer, Hill tries a new approach - he tries to work out not only the motivation of the perpetrator, but also how his minds works, how tiny details of what he (or she) does builds a full picture of that person. Suddenly, when he is very close to finally finding the key to the mind of the killer, something unexpected happens...
Crime TV series based on the books by Val McDermid. The setting is perhaps not the most original (clash of two worlds, he is a chaotic genius, she is a by-the-book career police officer), but the plots of the cases they work together on makes up for the plot basis. It was not a ground-breaking series, but it was good enough, dancing on the edge between being down-to-earth procedural drama and the Cracker-like puzzles that Tony Hill had to solve in order to find the killer. After a few seasons and an unfortunate change in the main cast, the formula became a bit stale, the mysteries a bit too predictable and too easy to spot from a get-go, but overall it was a solid piece of entertainment. There were some comic bits here and there, the character of Tony Hill was interesting enough to keep the audience glued to the screens.
