Vexed (2010, United Kingdom)
DI Jack Armstrong, a London police detective with more than one flaw, usually chooses not to be present in his office, he sort-of adapted a nearby bar to be his office. Of course, he was paired with Kate Bishop, a more focused on the job detective, who tries her best to keep Armstrong in check. On the other hand, she also has her own problems, her marriage to Dan is on the rocks and Jack is not exactly helping to smooth things out. But when they reach a crime scene everything changes - Jack is laser-focused on solving the case in hands... for about five minutes. Then Kate has to do all the hard work, while her partner just "follows his gut instinct". Luckily for Jack, his gut is seldom wrong.
He is a loose cannon, she does things by the book - you’ve heard that trope hundreds of times, right? Vexed will not surprise you that much, but still, with good chemistry between the main characters it is scripted well enough for the criminal cases to seem plausible and even interesting, and the comic elements to keep it light and entertaining. The cases they tackle vary between episodes, but not only the scenery changes, often the nature of the plot is different, f.e. they try to infiltrate a study on a university or a TV cooking competition show. Jack does what he does best, says the wrong things, while his partner (DI Bishop in first season and DI Davis in the second) get irritated by his lack of professionalism.
Overall an interesting mixture of police procedural drama and comedy, with very good cast and well written plots.
