Cold case files vs open case files vs short cases

There are three kinds of cases: cold cases (where every single piece of evidence was collected), open cases (where some of the evidence you will have to discover yourself), and short cases (where the file content is very limited). While they seem similar at first glance, each type requires a slightly different approach.

Cold cases

In cold case files, some police officers worked before on that case, but for some reason did not find the guilty party, and the case went cold. Now you can find the piece of evidence that the others had missed - it could be physical evidence, it could be some discrepancy in the testimonies, or it could be a hidden motive no one else thought of. Whatever it is, you can find it!

Open cases

In open case, you are given the evidence and pieces of information the original investigators have gathered, but some elements of the whole story are still missing. Open cases have additional resources available, f.e., you can get lab reports, make archive inquiries, search places, etc. It is similar to a cold case, but key elements needed to find the killer will require some additional work.

Short cases

The short cases will put to test your creative thinking - there are no testimonies, only a small amount of evidence and some gaps in the stories that you need to fill. You are given the list of suspects, the short description of how they are linked to the case, and... the rest is up to your brilliant brain!
