The Lone Detective - first steps

FAQ

Your first casefile

After creating an account, you can access the full casefiles, including all the details (like names, addresses, photos, etc.) which are not available to the non-registered visitors. As a new detective, you will be given the tutorial case, which is similar to other cases in the game, but with one important difference - each part of the file has tutorial help available.

The tutorial help will explain what you should have noticed in this piece of evidence, or how this could be important in preparing the solution. Of course, you can try to solve the case without using the tutorial help, but the whole point of the tutorial case is to help you understand the logic behind the game.

How to solve a case

There are two ways to play The Lone Detective: the easy way and the hard way. I know it's a cliché, but to make things worse, it is up to you to decide which way is the easy one and which is the hard one, so let's call them the quick way and the slow way.

Slow way

The slow way is, in our opinion, the hard way. Basically, you get through the evidence, read them all, and analyze every detail that may point in the direction of whom the killer was. It is time-consuming and might not but much fun (that's why we think it is the hard way), but it will show you the whole picture before you start building your theory. After all, a small detail in one of the pieces of evidence might turn the whole case upside down.

Quick way

Every case has its logical motive, if you work out the motive behind the crime, you do not need to get through all the evidence in the file, only the bits that might confirm your theory. It is less time-consuming, but on the other hand, it will put your brain to the test.

Which method is better? It is up to you - if you prefer the methodical approach, you should take the slow way. If you want a bigger challenge or prefer a bit of creative thinking, try the quick way (or short cases).

What comes after the tutorial case

After you finish the tutorial case, you will be given further cases, adequate to your skills level. The cases are split into 5 different difficulty levels, the higher the level, the more challenging the cases are.

You can open any of the files available to you at any time and work on that file as long as you want, there is no time limit or order, in which you can access the files.

Even if your first solution to the case turns out to be incorrect, you can try again, and the Game Master might give you clues that should point you in the right direction. There is no limit of tries you can have to solve the same case.
