Ludwig 2024 detective show

Ludwig (2024, United Kingdom)
John Taylor, a reclusive puzzle maker, who found a success under the pseudonym Ludwig, receives a phone call from his brother’s wife. James, or rather DCI James Taylor, a Cambridge police detective, went missing and his wife, Lucy, is worried that something might have happened to him. The message she received suggests that someone within the police force could be behind that sudden disappearance of her husband. Her plan to find out who, is for John to pretend to be James and impersonate him until they will learn the truth. John, who barely ever leaves his house, is reluctant to agree, but he as well would like to know the truth, so he takes the place of his twin brother. Lucy has some basic knowledge about the officers, who served with James, so John will have no problem identifying them, but the real challenge will be to adapt John to the modern world. Hidden behind the walls of his house and behind his puzzles, John lacks social skills and any knowledge about the modern world, so every interaction will be a challenge for him.
A comedy-drama detective series, which is more or less a part of "cosy mystery" sub-genre, but with a bit of a twist - while the team is solving some local cases, the underlying motif of missing brother and the wife’s investigation give those simple cases a second layer. The idea is a bit ridiculous, but the comic talent of David Mitchell and interesting disappearance subplot created a quite interesting TV series. Of course, there are some tropes, like Ludwig being the sole genius while the rest of the police force is baffled by anything they stumble upon, but overall it was a good enough story and some intriguing moments.
