Sleuth: Shades of Mystery is an open-ended, detective role playing online game (RPG), one of the first online games that was available on the market (since 2006). In Sleuth, you solve mysteries by searching for clues, questioning suspects and interviewing witnesses. Every mystery is unique with different victims, suspects and clues. All available mysteries are solvablein fact, there are always multiple ways to solve any single mystery, but player skill and a small amount of luck are necessary to nab the guilty suspect.

Being one of the oldest online detective games, Sleuth introduced quite a few unique features and mechanics into the genre, like short mysteries. The current form revolves around randomly generated murder cases, in a style similar to classic film noir productions, where you are a gumshoe trying to find the killer. Unfortunately, that formula gets repetitive after a while and, without human input, becomes a bit stale.

Nevertheless, it is a classic detective online game and, at least for that reason, it is worth to at least taking a look at this piece of history.
