The Little Book of Bathroom Crime Puzzles is a collection of 65 crime puzzles of various nature, put together in a form of very short stories and you, the amateur detective, try to solve them based on what is described in one of them. The formula is rather typical - you read a short scene, and you are given a question to answer, you look at the end of the book for the solutions. So far, so good. The problem with The Little Book of Bathroom Crime Puzzles is the variety of the puzzles.

Don’t get me wrong, variety is a very important factor when it comes to puzzles, especially those crime / detective ones, and there is a variety in The Little Book of Bathroom Crime Puzzles, but the variety comes with a caveat. That caveat being, some of them are not really puzzles, and what is more, you will not "solve them" in a minute or two. That is because some of them require a certain knowledge about forensics, without which you won’t be able to solve them. Example: is it possible to determine through DNA testing if someone is your distant relative if that person is dead and their only descendant is male? I don’t know about you, but no matter how much logic I would use, the answer to that is not something you can just work out yourself.

And there are also some puzzles that require some creative thinking, which is good, but when you look into the solution, the answer contains things you could not have known, which makes the puzzle a bit pointless. And, among them, there are a few really good puzzles, but overall the book is a mixed bag - some of them will make you think, some of them will make you think you are wasting your life.
