Severn Oaks is a luxury estate with just a handful of buildings surrounded by secure walls. The people who live there are the local elites - some of them rich, some of them famous, but all of them try to hide a secret. A few months back, one of them, Erica Spencer, fell off a treehouse and died due to injuries while the rest of them were attending a Halloween party. While police ruled this as an accident, a post on social media put this conclusion in question and announced a podcast that will reveal the truth not only about what really happened to Erica, but also will put new light on the residents of Severn Oaks. The six people, who were attending that party, suddenly realize that someone might have seen what actually happened that night, and they await nervously for the first episode of the podcast. But while this was happening, police have returned to Severn Oaks, although for a completely unrelated reason - one of the residents, Mary-Beth King, went missing on the day the podcast was introduced. These new circumstances and the accusations brought by Andy Noon in the podcast begin to stir the atmosphere of this small community.
A crime novel build around a formula that, unfortunately, became a norm for modern crime series - a group of people with secrets they are trying to hide and a new event that triggers the secrets to be revealed, none of which has much to do with the main plot - they are there just for the sake of keeping the mystery alive. While the book is well written, the main plot lacks any real events (apart from publication of the podcast episodes), the characters are hard to distinguish from each other and overall, the story is not that great. Not to mention, that ending leaves a lot to be desired. So, while well-written, it is formulaic and forgettable.
